Camborne 29, Bracknell 20

Camborne put a run of narrow defeats behind them with a bonus-point win over relegation threatened Bracknell in front of a big crowd at the Rec.

Though the visitors opened the scoring with an early try this was soon answered by the Cherry & Whites courtesy of a first senior touchdown for 17-year-old full-back Adam Long wide out in the turnstile corner.

Despite facing the slope the home side then went in front with a fine long range unconverted try from Alex Ducker who swept over from just inside his own half.

On the half hour Bracknell cut the home advantage to two points with a well struck 40-metre penalty from their fly-half’s boot.

Almost immediately Camborne fashioned a superb try with left wing Ducker and outstanding No 8 Jordan Rose combining to send scrum-half Taron Peacock over near the posts. Rhys Brownfield’s regulation conversion made it a 17-8 lead at the break.

Bracknell began the second period strongly and soon managed their second unconverted try to cut the deficit.

The Cherry & Whites responded on 50 minutes when pressure at a close range scrum brought the bonus point try dotted down by centre Declan Matthews and duly converted by fly-half Brownfield.

Camborne made the game safe inside the final quarter when a period of sustained pressure with replacement prop Andrius Zacharovas prominent in repeated forward surges finally set up a second touchdown opportunity for the prolific Ducker.

Late on the visitors gained some consolation by adding a converted score but ‘Town’ were not to be denied an important victory.
