Members of Killiow Golf Club’s senior section visited Falmouth Lifeboat Station last Tuesday and before being given a guided tour of the lifeboats, donated a cheque for £720.

The cheque was presented to Falmouth RNLI Coxswain Jonathon Blakeston and Falmouth RNLI Fundraising Box Secretary Trish Allen by Jim Smart, Killiow Golf Club’s senior section captain last year. In return, the golf club was presented with a Certificate of Thanks.

During his year of captaincy, Jim Smart decided that the club would support the RNLI and obtained a collection box from the station to encourage players to donate when signing up for a competition.

Jim said: "Historically, the senior section hasn’t had a charity to support so I thought it would be good to do something else as well as playing golf. The RNLI has always been my favourite charity and I have great respect for them. I am very pleased that we managed to raise such a good amount."

The visit to the station was organised by Chris Spink, Falmouth RNLI’s Lifeboat Visits Officer.

He said: "We were delighted to be able to show the golf members around our lifeboats and we are very grateful to them for their support.

"We welcome visitors to our lifeboat station and to give them an insight in to the work of our volunteer crews who help to save lives at sea."

The station is open for tours given by one of their volunteer guides during the half term week, Monday 18th to Saturday 23rd and then from April 1 through to October 31, starting at 11am each day and closing at 3.30pm on Monday to Friday and 1pm on Saturdays.

No prior arrangement is necessary, just come along to the station’s RNLI shop between these times. Should you wish to bring larger groups they can be accommodated with prior notice.’
