A young windsurfer had to be helped ashore after getting into difficulties on Sunday afternoon.

Another windsurfer went to the girl's aid after dialling 999 and calling Falmouth Coastguard's operations centre.

Penzance Coastguards were called to the incident off the Station House at Marazion, just before 4.30pm.

Penlee Lifeboat Inshore Lifeboat was also requested to attend.

Members of the team on scene established that the man reporting the incident had gone to the girl's assistance.

He had managed to get her back up on the board and both had been able to make their way towards the shore.

Weakened by the strong wind and sea conditions, she been in the sea about 30 minutes, unable to get back on her board.

Penlee ILB stood by until it was confirmed that both were safely ashore and apart from being a bit cold, the girl suffered no ill-effects.
