The family of a 23-year-old boat finisher from The Lizard said it has found comfort from the "huge outpouring of love" it has received following his sudden death.

Caspar Crosland has been described as "the life and soul of every situation" and a joy to be around.

The former Mullion School student was found in Wendron, where he had been living, at 8.30am on Friday, February 1.

The air ambulance was called, landing in the grounds of Wendron Primary School, but Caspar could not be saved.

Caspar's sister Imogen said this week: "Our brother was the life and soul of every situation he found himself in. He had an enormous personality and brought humour and joy to the simplest of things.

"We love and miss him immensely, as does everyone who had the pleasure of spending time with him. We have found comfort in the huge outpouring of love and support we have received from those closest to him but also from those who only knew him for a short time, showing Caspar’s enthusiasm for life touched people wherever he chose to go.

"We feel grateful for all the time and experiences we shared together and we will celebrate his life by being in the places he loved with the people he loved, sharing all his amazing stories that will never be forgotten."

His girlfriend Sarah described him as "a joy to be around," adding that "he lit up every room he entered."

She said: "His wit and humour impacted anyone he came across. He was always looking at things in a good light and making the most of every moment.

"He was good and kind and gentle towards my children and they love him very much, as did anyone else who ever met him.

"We are all very lucky to have had him in our lives."

Caspar trained as an apprentice at Pendennis Shipyard in Falmouth, where he learnt his trade as a surface finisher on yachts.

A spokesperson for the company said: "We were so sorry to hear the terrible news about Caspar. He worked for us as an apprentice for two and a half years and was a very popular and well liked member of the team."

He had also worked for Blue Fin Yachts, which has its head office in Saltash.

Company director Nick Barber said: "He will be really sadly missed. He'd finished working for us but he was still a good friend and a friend of the family. It's very sad."

Most recently he had been finishing show cars, as well as boats, which was his passion.

Caspar's friends have also been speaking of their disbelief at what had happened, leaving tributes and messages on his Facebook page.

One described himself as "speechless" to hear the news, while another described him as "always the nicest guy in the room" who never failed to make everyone smile.

One friend wrote: "Still can’t quite put into words how much heartache I feel right now, you were one of a kind man!

"I cherish every single memory we have together and you still make me laugh even when I am crying. You were like a brother, always knew you were there and always knew you would do anything you could to help out."
