Planning officers have said they would "not encourage" a woman to consider building a house on a wooded area in Helston.

Mrs G Holland of Mullion had asked Cornwall Council for advice on the possibility of building the house on what is described as a "former garden/woodland," on land east of The Yard, Ratcliffes Lane.

The lane connects Penzance Road with Porthleven Road, running adjacent to the far side of Coronation Lake on the opposite side to the main road.

Senior development officer Martin Jose has now written to Mrs Holland warning her that a house on that site would not be supported and telling her: "I would not encourage the submission of an application."

He said the area of trees helped form a "rural landscape" on the edge of the town, that gave the site "the appearance of an undeveloped area in the countryside." Such a development would require a number of trees to be felled.

Further "harm" would be caused by the necessary creation of a turning area, he said, due to the lane being steeply sloping.

Plans for a house in a similar location were refused in 2015.
