FALMOUTH-based clothing brand, Seasalt, welcomes its 1,000th employee this month, with the first, 10th, 100th and 1,000th employees all joining Neil and Sophie Chadwick, Seasalt co-founders, in the design studio to celebrate the milestone.

The company started as an Army Surplus shop in Penzance and since 2005 has created hundreds of jobs in Cornwall as a result of its expansion.

Neil said: “This really is a landmark day for us, it means a lot that we’ve been able to bring so much employment to Cornwall over the years.

"We’ve been dedicated to growing at a rate that has allowed us to invest in as much local talent as possible, whether that’s in our shops, distribution centre at Redruth or our head office in Falmouth.

"Reaching our 1,000th employee mark is testament to all the hard work of our teams across the business and the continued loyalty of our customers.”

Seasalt’s very first employee, Adrian Green, is still with the business more than two decades later.

Adrian’s role has evolved considerably over the years, starting his Seasalt career as a shop assistant in Falmouth, before moving on to work in the business systems department, then finance and finally to his current role as a customer experience specialist.

Celia Vivian, Seasalt’s 10th employee, works as a retail support administrator at head office in Falmouth Business Park, having started at Seasalt in the Fowey shop, advising customers.

Drawing on her years of experience in retail, she now supports the operational needs of the shops.

Anna Roberts is Seasalt’s 100th employee and works above the Falmouth shop on all of the window creations that are a particular feature of Seasalt shops, having also begun her career on the shop floor at St Ives.

And now Seasalt is delighted to welcome its 1,000th employee, Molly O’Grady, a sales advisor in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, with its 60th shop set to open later this week.

The combined experience of these four employees alone is more than 40 years.

With an appreciation of the wealth of expertise and potential within the business, Seasalt has recently invested in a development team which will enable it to continue to nurture talent internally and attract new employees.

This Saturday, February 16, sees the second celebration in a week for Seasalt at home in Cornwall, when the refitted Falmouth shop will open its doors to the public for the first time since its temporary refurbishment closure.

Visitors will be entertained by shanty singers Figurehead and enjoy locally sourced refreshments.
