'YOU have cancer' were three words Amy Turner never thought she would hear, especially aged just 44 and with a four-year-old daughter to care for.

After putting off smear tests, Amy admitted she wasn't 'clued up' about the symptoms of cervical cancer and let her busy life get in the way of booking an appointment at the doctors.

In May, she took herself to the gynaecology clinic in St Helens with pelvic pain and irregular bleeding.

Within weeks, Amy was given the devastating diagnosis that she had cervical cancer and it had spread to her lymph nodes.

She started a gruelling course of radiotherapy and chemotherapy during summer and was recently told there is no sign of cancer.

Amy, from Great Sankey, is now organising a skydive to raise money for Clatterbridge Hospital to say thank you.

The Penketh High School modern languages teacher will be leaping out of a plane at Black Knight’s in Lancaster for the charity because she wants others to get the outstanding care that she received at Clatterbridge.

Amy, 44, said: "I can't even put into words how amazing the staff are at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, it is an incredible place that gave me the absolute best care from start to finish.

"From my very first nerve-wracking appointment explaining my gruelling treatment plan to being able to ring that bell, they made everyday as comfortable as possible for myself, family and friends until I got the all clear seven tough months later.

"Nothing was ever too much trouble for them.

"I want to raise money to make sure others get the same fast diagnosis and right treatment to ensure they are cured as swiftly as I was with the same wonderful care.

"I always say nothing will ever scare me again as much as hearing that I had this awful disease so I’m putting this to the test by chucking myself out of a plane."
