A WOODBURNER caused a chimney fire in a village near Helston yesterday evening.
Firefighters were called to a property in Mawgan just before 5pm and found that the woodburner had an unlined flue, which caused a fire at the top of it.
One appliance from Helston Fire Station attended this incident.
A crew from Helston Fire Station used specialist equipment including small gear, hearth kit, thermal image camera, stirrup pump and rods to extinguish the fire.
There are three main reasons that a chimney needs a liner:
1) because the chimney has no clay tile liner (older chimneys may not);
2) the current chimney liner is damaged
3) a liner is required for optimal performance and safety if a new heating unit is installed
