Sunday saw the wheels set in motion for a one-man fundraising challenge involving an all-day cycle ride in aid of The Lizard Lifeboat.

Jonny Richards set himself the challenge of cycling from 9am to 11pm, on an exercise bike set up in the Three Tuns pub in St Keverne, his home village.

By the end he had managed a total of 200 miles and, with some more sponsorship money still to come, the amount raised has already reached more than £400.

This includes money taken in a large raffle run all day, with prizes donated by businesses in the area and local people, including a large photograph of the lifeboat launching.

Jonny was supported throughout the challenge by Phil Greet, of Nightchasers Disco, who played motivational music and was compere throughout the day.

It was through working as Phil's roadie for the disco that inspired Jonny to carry out the fundraising, having learnt more about the work the lifeboat crews do while providing the PA system for the RNLI fundraising days in Porthleven, Lizard and St Ives each year.

Ian Harvey, lifeboat treasurer, said: "Well done Jonny and thank you to Phil, the Three Tuns and everybody else who helped."

Lizard RNLI spokesperson Lyndsay Bray agreed: "Our thanks to all involved from us all at The Lizard RNLI Lifeboat Station."

Anyone who would still like to make a donation to Jonny can do so via Phil by calling 07773 391203.
