Continual growth is key to success on the high street these days and Head Rush in Helston has been doing it for years.

The unisex hair salon was started by Becky Cross nine years ago and since then has developed to include a number of businesses, all under one roof.

It now also incorporates Lovelee Nails offering nail art and extensions and The Beauty Loft health and beauty treatment room above, with Head Rush Gifts, selling a range of cards and gifts, below.

Becky, who has been hairdressing for almost 18 years, said: “We’ve grown the business and modernised it; given it a new lease of life.”

It was back in 2010 that Becky took over an existing salon, Hair Design, which had been in the town for around 50 years – and initially she had no thoughts of starting her own business.

“I asked to be manager of Hair Design, because the previous one was retiring, and the owner offered me the business – so I said yes and never looked back.

“It’s nice to be your own business, but also work within a friendship group, with a nice relaxed atmosphere.

“I love my job, because it doesn’t feel like work,” she said.

The business’s secondary catch line “a cut above the rest” refers to its first floor location in Coinagehall Street – something that customers say is an advantage.

“Because we’re upstairs, a lot of our clients like the fact people can’t walk past and stare at them. Although our customers always look fantastic, nobody looks their best in the middle of a haircut!” added Becky.
