A stretch of coastline along the North Helford has had its beach clean rescheduled following an impromptu visit from Storm Freya.

The event has now been rescheduled to Sunday, March 24 and the team from Glendurgan Garden are looking for volunteers to come and help them clear up the beaches after the recent stormy weather.

The team were scheduled to hold their second beach clean event along the North Helford coastline on Sunday, March 3, but had to postpone the event due to the high winds which landed on the Cornish coastline with Storm Freya.

The event has now been rescheduled to Sunday, March 24 (2-4pm) starting from Bosveal National Trust Car Park (TR11 5JR), near Mawnan Smith, and the team are looking for volunteers to assist them to help litter pick and remove marine debris from Grebe and Durgan beaches. The event will now coincide with the Keep Britain Tidy Great British Spring Clean which runs March 22 and April 23.

The session will involve walking along the North Helford from Bosveal car park to Grebe beach, and then back along the scenic coast path to Durgan beach for a final clean, after which complimentary cake plus hot and cold drinks will be served from the National Trust volunteer run Fish Cellar in the village of Durgan.

Tamsin Hennah, senior visitor experience officer, said: “Our beach cleans present the perfect opportunity to soak in fantastic views and fresh air whilst helping to keep our beautiful beaches along the North Helford clean.

"We hold seasonal beach cleans along the Helford river to help keep our countryside and coastline as free of litter and marine debris as possible. Full details of future beach cleans are on our website at nationaltrust.org.uk/glendurgan.”

Anybody interested in getting involved can turn up on the day, no booking is required, and you are welcome to bring dogs on leads and children who are supervised by a responsible adult. All equipment such as gloves, bags and litter pickers are provided, including high vis jackets, gloves and small litter pickers for children. Please wear sturdy footwear as the terrain is uneven and steep in places.

The National Trust looks after a total of 433 hectares of countryside and coastline around the North Helford, including 25 acres at Glendurgan Garden near Mawnan Smith.
