Four friends hoping to break into the crowded Cornish arts market are getting ready to stage an exhibition of their work in the hope it will also inspire others.
Caitlin McLintock, Harriet Bray, Katie Currier-Teal and Amy Carter all have degrees from creative arts courses in Cornwall and have now put together their own exhibition at Porthleven’s Old Lifeboat House.
Taking place next month, from April 14 to 19 during gallery hours, the exhibition is called AWENI - which means ‘inspire’ in Cornish - and will consist of illustrations, silversmith jewellery, photography and prints.
Caitlin, who graduated from Falmouth University with a degree in illustration in 2017, said: “Our exhibition hopes to show what inspires us to create, but also to inspire others like us to keep pursuing their dreams.”

Her work is influenced by the natural landscape and its wildlife from all over the UK, using a mixture of ink, pen and watercolour.
Fellow Falmouth University graduate Harriet Bray, who finished last year with a textile design degree specialising in print, counts Patrick Heron, Lucienne Day and Barbara Hepworth as among her influences.

She works in gouache paint and inks, looking at the colours and natural forms of the Cornish landscape to create abstract work.
Katie Currier-Teal, a fashion photography graduate from Falmouth University, will be displaying her photographs as part of the exhibition.
Her work is often fashion or travel based, focussing predominately on people. She describes her work as being “heavily inspired by millennials, Wes Anderson, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Ansel Adams and a pastel colour palette”, with most of it being digital although she has recently worked on a project using 35mm film.

Completing the line up is Amy Carter, a jeweller and silversmith living in Porthleven where the exhibition will take place.
She particularly enjoys creating sea glass jewellery, botanical pieces and miniature scenes in mixed metals such as copper and brass.
