COLIN Snook of Cornwall Athletics Club was the winner of the 2019 staging of the Falmouth Half Marathon on Sunday.

Snook of Cornwall AC was the first person across the finish line, with Jordan Morant of Hayle Runners in second and Ken Walker of Newquay Road Runners in third.

Rachel Bunting was the first woman to finish.

Sunday's race, which was held in aid of Cornwall Hospice Care, was set to feature a record number of runners, with the cap of 700 participants having been met and organisers Falmouth Road Runners having to operate a waiting list.

Today's staging was the first edition of the event for two years after last year's race was cancelled due to heavy snowfall and weather warnings.

The 13.1-mile route starts in the lee of Pendennis Castle, following the coast past the beaches of Gyllyngvase and Swanpool and glimpsing Maenporth as the route rises to give views over the bay to the castle.

The route follows undulating Cornish country lanes featuring open fields and wooded scenes, passing Falmouth Golf Club twice.
