BREAKFAST Boogie - touted as Cornwall's first morning rave - will take place at the Princess Pavilion in Falmouth next month.

The morning rave will promote wellbeing in Falmouth and is being hosted by student-based trio Empower Events, from 9-11am.

The rave starts with breakfast and a Zumba fitness class for over 18s, then opens its doors to all ages from 10am with circus performances, hip-hop dancers and a live DJ. Any gains will be donated to mental health charity Mind.

From individuals needing to shake off some work stress to families looking to spice up the Easter break, Breakfast Boogie is an opportunity for everybody to take to the dance floor.

“Breakfast Boogie is the first of its kind down here in Cornwall and it promises to be a safe, inclusive environment, while also being really lively and colourful,” said group member Zoë Goldsworthy-Hall.

“We just want people to feel empowered, good about themselves,” she added.

Students may need to give their wellbeing some special care this April with deadlines looming, something that Empower Events is particularly aware of.

A British Active Students 2017/2018 survey has found that people who took part in a sport and had a gym membership had the highest average mental wellbeing. Exercising – be it Zumba, be it sober raving - may be the best way to get through this busy period with a healthy mind.

Empower Events recognises that the wider community will benefit from a good boogie, too.

Dancing is beneficial for people of all ages and abilities, according to a survey directed by the Department of Health.

Children participants were reported to have made significant gains in social skills and self-esteem after dancing, while 70 per cent of adult participants reported that dancing made them feel more active, enthusiastic and inspired.

Breakfast Boogie was inspired by the popularity of Morning Gloryville, London’s morning dance party.

Similar raves such as Shake Awake in Bristol and Daybreaker, which takes place in 25 cities around the world, speak for a common human need to start the day to a rhythm and a beat.
