A spring concert will raise funds to help enhance end of life care at the Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust on Saturday.

The acclaimed Royal Cornwall Hospital Choir, comprising staff and volunteers from the trust, is inviting everyone to join them at St Elwyn’s Church in Hayle for an evening of uplifting song and music.

Caroline Barton, choir member and health care scientist at Royal Cornwall Hospital, said: “We want as many people as possible to join us for what we know will be a great evening of entertainment. The choir are so looking forward to sharing their favourite music and songs all for a cause which is so close to our hearts.”

“Our Christmas concert was so well attended with such a great atmosphere of positivity. Bringing together entertainment, friendship and raising funds for a worthy cause – what could be better?” she added.

Admission to the event is free and the choir will be fundraising for The Butterfly Scheme Fund. The scheme aims to put into place simple tools that enhance end of life care for patients and their families.

“End of life care is everyone’s business and it is about getting it right for every patient every time, irrespective of their place of death. It is really important to look after our families as well as our patients at this really difficult time. This is what the Butterfly Scheme is about,” said Liz Thomas, Specialist Palliative Care Nurse.

On sale at the event will also be the choir’s CD. Released just before Christmas, the choir have already sold over 200 copies of their charity CDs featuring their most popular songs. Sales have so far raised over £2500, but the choir are keen to do more.

"Among other items the choir’s fundraising will provide audio equipment for patient rooms.

“The audio equipment will allow patients and their loved ones to choose music that may be of comfort to them or remind them of special times in their lives. It is so important that we are all a part of getting it right at what can be a very difficult and emotional time for everyone,” said Sarah Chaplin, Hospital Chaplain and Choir Lead.

The concert starts at 7pm.
