Best of England has launch its new pub guide featuring 200 of the best in England - and it includes some Cornish entries.

The guide contains a selection of hand-picked recommendations, all of which have been visited and beautifully photographed by the Best of England team.

Simon Ridgwell, founder and editor, said: "English country pubs are an important part of our history and are often the heart of the rural community. We travelled hundreds of miles throughout the countryside to to find these hidden gems.

"We met passionate landlords and chefs who are doing amazing things with local produce but are struggling to stay afloat. We wanted to do our bit to try and support them and help keep country pubs going."

“Pubs are an historic and national institution that should be protected for future generations to enjoy and it genuinely saddens me to hear how rapidly they are closing” he continues."

Two entries from Cornwall are The Pandora Inn at Restronguet Creek and The Gurnard’s Head, near St Ives.

Of the Pandora, the book says: "Few pubs can claim to serve fish fresh from the boat, but Falmouth’s 13th-century Pandora Inn does. But that’s not the only thing that makes this inn special. Home to a cosy, character bar and restaurant, you can hunker down on a blustery day and enjoy food by the fire.

Referring to The Gurnard's Head, it adds: "A landmark pub almost at the edge of England, the Gurnard’s Head is your last stop for a pint and an open fire before the Atlantic Ocean. Between St Just and Zennor, this is genuine Cornwall. Wild, mysterious and beautiful, the Gurnard’s Head is an inn that transports you back to when travel was that little bit slower."

Simon continued: “We’ve done a huge amount of research to compile this book and made the effort to visit and photograph each one ourselves. We turned up unannounced and didn't charge anything for each pub to be featured in our guide. That way we could be 100 per cent honest with our recommendations and make the most authentic pub guide we could."

Available exclusively from the Best of England website (and Amazon) for £19.99, the guide is split into six defined regions that cover the whole of England along with Editor’s Picks and handy maps too.

There is also a page in the book about the best vineyards the team have visited across the country including Camel Valley and Knightor Winery, near St Austell.
