Skinner's Brewery has secured a deal with Tesco to sell their new Sennen IPA in stores across the South West.

Sennen IPA takes its name from the well-known cove and is the first product to be added to Skinner's core range for five years.

The new listing, which will see bottles of Sennen sold in Tesco stores across the South West, marks the latest milestone in a long-standing relationship between the supermarket and the Truro brewery.

Tesco already stocks a range of Skinner's products including its Betty Stogs ale.

Steve Skinner, who founded the brewery, is confident the new product will prove popular with shoppers.

He said: "Skinner's is a proudly Cornish company and our ales reflect the brewery's heritage in the South West.

"Sennen is the latest addition to our core range and we’re delighted that Tesco will be stocking it in 66 of its stores. Sennen is our first core ale to be sold in 330ml bottles and Tesco is the first supermarket we've partnered with to sell it.

“Tesco has supported Skinner's from the beginning and it's great that they agree just how good Sennen is. We can't wait to see it on their shelves so that even more people can try our hoppy masterpiece.”

Skinner’s employs more than 50 people and produces more than one million bottles a year. It began life in 1997, with the brewery operating just a stone’s throw from Tesco’s Truro store.

Sophie Dillon, Tesco’s local buyer for England, joined Steve Skinner at the brewery to mark the new listing.

She said: “It’s really important to us at Tesco to put great-quality local products on our shelves and we have a great relationship with Steve and his team at Skinner’s which has developed over many years.

“When Skinner’s came to us with Sennen IPA, we knew it was a product that could do well in our stores, and we think our customers will enjoy it.”

Sennen was originally launched seven years ago, but the recipe has been recently refreshed and the beer is now dry-hopped. Dry-hopping is a traditional British technique, originally used to help preserve ales without refrigeration, which delivers a stronger taste of hops in the finished product.

The beer is available in large Tesco stores across the South West from this month.

Steve added: “We’re really pleased with the improved Sennen and, in addition to the upgraded taste, people are enjoying the bottle’s eye-catching label. It’s by Cornish-based illustrators A-Side and has a heritage feel that celebrates the beautiful Cornish coastline.”
