Exmouth 38, Camborne 27

Camborne’s injury ravaged squad put up stout resistance at Exmouth to deservedly lead at half-time before the home side came on strong in the final quarter to secure the spoils.

After an even opening Exmouth took the lead with a converted try at the end of the first quarter. ‘Town’ though soon levelled matters when centre Declan Matthews once again poached an interception score improved by Rhys Brownfield.

As the interval neared fly-half Brownfield edged the visitors in front with a penalty but the home side hit back immediately with a converted touchdown for 14-10.

There was still time for the Cherry & Whites to mount another series of attacks ending with lock Andrius Zacharovas being driven over. Brownfield’s conversion gave Camborne a three point lead at the break but crucially both replacements were already pressed into service as more injuries struck.

Ten points early in the second period allowed Exmouth to go 24-17 up and it stayed that way up to the hour mark.

Camborne sniffed a comeback on 65 minutes when elusive wing Alex Ducker weaved his way through the defence for a superb unconverted try reducing the arrears to only two points.

With all to play for in the closing stages the home side bagged a quickfire brace of converted touchdowns to ease clear leaving spirited Camborne to respond with a last gasp corner try from wing Rhodri Mcatee to gain the consolation bonus point.
