Four arrests have been made under the Modern Day Slavery Act after police swooped a boat in Newlyn this morning

They were called to the fishing port this morning following reports that a group of people were seen getting into the back of a van from a boat.

The van and another vehicle were stopped by officers on the M5 near J28 just after 9am and around 30 foreign nationals, believed to be Vietnamese, were located in the van.

Four men have been arrested; Three men have been taken into police custody. One of the men has been taken to hospital and remains under police guard.

The National Crime Agency, UK Border Agency and other relevant partner agencies have been informed.

While enquires continue in Newlyn and Cullompton, police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident and anyone with information is asked to get into contact on 101 quoting log 93 of Friday 12 April.
