Tropical Pressure Festival brings a global explosion of world-music, culture and hip swivelling sounds for its sixth year of celebrating international culture in Cornwall.

In times which could be described as disconnected and even divisive, a unique festival in Cornwall celebrates what it is to be people of the world in an exploration of the rich cultures of Latin America, Africa and the Caribbean.

Tropical Pressure, set within the green grounds of Mount Pleasant Eco Park at Porthtowan, is in its sixth year and brings the most varied musical weekend yet.

With acts as diverse as LA-33, the biggest salsa band in the world from Bogotá; to the burning hot rhythm of Pat Kalla et le Supermojo, hailing from the depths of Lyon and with a global expedition of fast, accordion-led music – playing for the first time in the UK; fresh melodic lyrics and tales of Ethiopian pilgrimages from 6 Music’s darlings Hejira; disruptive Reunion Isles’ Lindigo with their infectious, irrepressibly energetic performances; and Kongo Dia Ntotila’s Afrikan Roots beats, the world comes to Cornwall once a year for a foot stomping celebration of what it is to be people of the world!

Festival director Tim Stirrup said: “Tropical Pressure Festival is an immersion in the cultures of Latin America, Africa and the Caribbean through music, art food and dance, and all here in our beautiful slice of Cornish countryside. We are all about celebrating of the richness and beauty that these cultures have to offer and what we share as people of the world. In these disconnected times it is vital to feel that we are all connected! By our history, and by our sense of humanity. By coming together to form a community of people who share a care for their environment, their creativity and of course their love of music.”

When the sun goes down, after dark Tropical Pressure becomes a magical, sparkly wonderland, with evening adventures spread across three totally tropical and suitably steamy venues. Pick from the neon warehouse vibes of Fandangos, the trippy, chilled embrace of the Enchanted Dancehall, or the high-energy dancefloor of Madam Juju's. All playing host to top DJ's and sounds from across the globe with some top of the bill special guests being kept under wraps. Last year the Mad Professor played Sunday night’s session, for example.

Continuing the theme of cultural exploration and with a pronounced focus on upcycling, a variety of workshops are being held over the weekend including everything from wild flower headdresses, foraging and a Surfers Against Sewage beach clean.

If this global mix of sweltering music is not enough to have readers hotfooting it to Cornwall, then the lip-smacking tastes of a range of world fusion, 100% vegetarian food and a commitment to a greener festival should seal the deal.

Tropical Pressure Festival, Mount Pleasant Eco Park, runs on Friday, July 12 (entry from £10), Saturday 13 July and Sunday 14 July
