An Illogan man was jailed for harassing a woman who had a restraining order against him.

Stephen John Chapman, 37, of Primrose Gardens, sent messages to his victim between December 2017 and January 2019.

Prosecuting, Anita Kennet said that the victim presented 55 pages of messages sent by Chapman as her evidence, the "sheer number" of which is "wearing her down".

By breaching the restraining order, Chapman activated a suspended sentence imposed in October 2017 for harassing the same woman.

Defence solicitor Deborah Von Kohler argued that Chapman was a "family man" who had not been in court before first getting into legal trouble in 2013.

She also asked magistrates to take into consideration his early guilty plea.

He was sentenced to a total of 43 weeks imprisonment, and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £115 and court costs of £85.
