It’s good news for the high street in Truro today, with news of a local retailer moving onwards and upwards against a backdrop of retail doom and gloom.

Steamer Trading on Pydar Street is a brand that is bucking the trend, announcing a commitment to save local jobs and launching a new look store for Spring 2019.

Store manager Helen Shoobridge said: “Having an injection of high-quality cookware and kitchenware lines is fantastic news as we can continue our legacy of being the number one destination in Truro for serious cooks.”

In January this year, kitchenware retailer Steamer Trading was saved from administration by Gloucestershire based cookware specialists, ProCook. The acquisition saved 273 jobs across the UK, a deal that included nine jobs in the Truro store.

Steamer Trading Cookshop Truro, the most recent store to open in the chain, has established itself since opening in 2016 as the go-to store for the very best in kitchenware, carrying many iconic high-end brands.

Since opening, the shop has become a firm favourite amongst local chefs and restaurateurs, including internationally renowned and locally revered chefs Nathan Outlaw and Paul Ainsworth.

The store recently partnered with Cuppa Cornwall to launch their product line that promotes plastic-free living, and holds regular food demonstrations with food producers such as Charlie’s Gluten Free and Hard Pressed Oil Cornwall. It’s latest line Life’s a Beach supports the eradication of single use plastic and donates ten per cent of all sales to support local beach cleans.

As part of ProCook’s commitment to continue building the Steamer Trading brand, the Truro store has been chosen as one of the first Steamer Trading stores to receive a boost of over 1200 new, exclusive cookware and tableware products.

Daniel O’Neill, owner of ProCook, said: “We are delighted to announce this news and see it as a fantastic opportunity for Steamer Trading and ProCook to grow both brands. Our focus will continue to be on providing excellent value for money, great service and innovative high-quality homewares. Cornwall is hub for foodies so we wanted to get the new product lines in there as soon as possible to ensure customers are getting the widest choice.”

Following an exciting new refurbishment, the store will reopen to reveal its new look on Thursday, April 18.

Customers will be able to enjoy a free coffee and shop all the big brands already associated with Steamer Trading including Robert Welch, Emma Bridgewater, Cuisinart and Joseph Joseph, as well as stylish new ranges from ProCook.
