PLANS to turn a piece of land in Grappenhall into a permanent traveller site have been submitted.

The site on Cartridge Lane stands on the land of the now demolished Grappenhall Lodge.

It has been used as a temporary sites for gipsy caravans since November 2007 – a move backed by the secretary of state in July 2014.

Now an application has been submitted to turn the land into a permanent base for six static caravans and associated storage sheds and hard standing.

In documents submitted to Warrington Borough Council, the developer says the proposals, other than the provision of wildlife habitats, do not alter or amend the current site layout or facilities.

It states: "Access will be as existing, a gated private drive off Cartridge Lane, with suitably sized turning facility to ensure all vehicles exit in a forward direction. Vehicle movements will be no greater than that afforded by a typical housing development with the added benefit of considerably reduced construction traffic."
