A restaurant based in one of Falmouth's most historic buildings is looking to make changes in order to keep up with demand.

The Stable Bar & Restaurants Ltd is applying for planning permission to extend the first floor kitchen into the adjacent bar area of its Arwenack Street business, which operates out of the Old Custom House.

Documents accompanying the application, for listed building consent on the Grade II* listed building, state: "The small and cellular layout which endures today is particularly problematic for the efficient running of a commercial kitchen and has resulted in uncomfortable working conditions and lost trade during the busier seasons."

The kitchen would offer a more practical and efficient layout, and accommodate the additional equipment needed to meet peak demand, it it is added.

A more compact bar would be created within the Long Room restaurant area, which fits with the company's move towards table service at first floor level, rather than orders being placed at the bar.

The restaurant has been based at the former customs house since the building's conversion in 2014.
