TICKETS for the Falmouth Packet Sea Shanty Concert at this year's Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival are selling fast – so be quick to make sure you don't miss out.

Organisers say the event, which takes place on the Saturday night of this year's festival, which runs from June 14 to June 16, is sure to sell out, with only a couple of dozen tickets left.

It takes place at The Poly this year and is the only part of the festival weekend that requires a ticket.

Featuring Tom Lewis, Les Marins Des Abers, The Molgoggers and Short Drag Roger, seats are £15 from The Poly Box Office on 01326 319461 or online at www.thepoly.org

Headliner Tom Lewis is an ex-submariner making his living entertaining audiences around the world with his stories and powerful songs.

He’s delighted that his compositions have become maritime folk standards, with ‘Last Shanty’ (A Sailor Ain’t a Sailor) recorded by more than 42 different groups around the world and sung, for fun, by many more.

Les Marins Des Abers – or The Abers Sailors Group – is a male choir which was formed in early 2000 by the men of the choir War Araog Atao. They were quickly joined by singers from various choirs in North Finistère, France.

The Molgoggers are an eight-strong, a-cappella, all-male group from the maritime town of Cobh, on Ireland’s south coast. They sing a mixture of traditional sea shanties and contemporary maritime songs, all given the Molgogger treatment.

Short Drag Roger complete the bill.

Hailing from the 'well-known fishing port of Oxford', they like nothing better than travelling the country and beyond, singing traditional and not so traditional sea shanties. They have been performing a-capella harmonies for the delectation of audiences for 17 years. They say they will sing to anyone, anywhere and at any time: corporate events, christenings, weddings, military and charity events and folk festivals, as well as Women’s Institutes.

The Packet has a pair of tickets to the concert on Saturday, June 15, to give away. Just email your name and phone number to steven.smith@newsquest.co.uk and we'll pull a name out of the hat at random on May 24. Alternatively, send your details to the mailing address on page 18. We also have five CDs of last year's Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival to give away as runners-up prizes. Winners will be drawn at random and the editor's decision is final.
