More than 40 family members and friends reunited for a charity walk to remember a loved one who passed away.

Peter Varnes died on May 5 2018, only two weeks after being diagnosed with cancer. Peter, a British Airways captain, enjoyed a short solo walking holiday at Sennen Cove months before his death.

Organised by his wife Roslyn, the memorial walk attracted a huge crowd and managed to raise more than £1,500 for Sarcoma UK.

She said: "It was the best way we could have spent the first anniversary of my husband's death - in a stunning location, surrounded by the love and support of so many of our wonderful family and friends. Those people who couldn't make it were with us in spirit.

Falmouth Packet:

"Peter loved Sennen Cove so much that he wanted us to visit as a family. And now we have, although the 'family' was bigger than he imagined!"

Peter developed a sarcoma - which is a rare form of cancer - which was diagnosed just two weeks before his death. He received surgery to have the tumour removed, but sadly it had already done too much damage to his body for him to survive.

He remained hopeful throughout his short illness, which Roslyn says inspired all of those who knew and loved him.

Donations are still coming in via a JustGiving page set up by Roslyn.
