Devon and Cornwall Police has appointed a new assistant chief constable.

Chief Superintendent James Colwell will take up his role in July after a competitive selection process held late last week.

Ch Supt Colwell has previously been the Devon BCU commander and is promoted after completing the strategic command course earlier this year.

Chief Constable Shaun Sawyer said: “Following a strong selection process, I’m proud to welcome Ch Supt Colwell to become assistant chief constable.

“Jim has policed across Devon, Cornwall and Plymouth throughout his career so brings exceptional experience to my command team and the wider communities of the region.”
