A former Falmouth Packet journalist has turned his hand to art in retirement and created a collection of Cornish-themed acrylic paintings that will raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
Mike Truscott’s “OggyArt” portfolio features easily recognisable coastal scenes along with the signature feature of a Cornish icon – such as the pasty, clotted cream scone and the chough.
Prints are now available at the Cancer Research UK shop in Market Street, Falmouth, with all proceeds going to the charity.
They will add to Mike’s collection of seven local-interest books which he has written over the last five years and which have so far raised over £10,000 for Cancer Research, with limited editions sold exclusively through the Falmouth shop.
He got the idea for OggyArt when his friend, Keith Rashleigh, of Budock, posted a “pasty selfie” on Facebook, with a photo of Falmouth Bay and a close-up hand-held pasty.
Mike sought his permission to paint it – and art collectors Keith and partner Pam liked it so much they promptly bought the result.
With guidance from his teacher, Jeanni Grant-Nelson, of Truro, Mike then spent much of last year creating the portfolio.
“I was greatly encouraged by Keith and Pam’s enthusiasm for that first painting,” he recalled, “and I am indebted to Jeanni for her terrific support and guidance in all aspects of the project.”
