One of Helston’s last remaining banks is changing its opening times.

As of next month Barclays in Helston will be closed on Thursdays, but will instead open on Saturday mornings.

In information being handed out to customers in the branch, the company said Thursdays had been chosen for closure as they were the “quietest day”.

Michael Watts, Barclays community banking director for Cornwall and Devon, went on to tell the Packet: “We are giving our customers more choice about when they visit the Helston branch.

“By opening on a Saturday this provides more flexibility for our busy customers and the opportunity to discuss their more complex banking needs, such as buying a home, at a time that suits them.

“The new opening hours will complement our digital and telephony channels, which still remain an important part of how our customers are choosing to bank with us.”

The Saturday opening times will be 9am to 1pm, with the remaining days – Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday – staying at 9.30am to 4.30pm. The branch will still be closed Sundays.

Barclays and Lloyds are the only two remaining banks in Helston, following the closure of HSBC, Santander and most recently Nat West in recent years.
