Award-winning children’s clothing company Frugi has given a glimpse behind the doors of its factories as it celebrates 15 years in business.

Now with a large headquarters in Helston, the company started life around the founders’ kitchen table in Constantine when Kurt and Lucy Jewson found themselves unable to buy clothes to fit around their baby’s cloth nappies.

It was a gap in the market that has grown into a multi-million pound business – and at the heart of that is the company’s ethical values.

To mark its 15th birthday, Frgui has produced a mini-series of videos giving a never-before-seen view into its organic cotton production in India.

The first of the ‘15 years of Frugi’ videos shows behind the scenes at the factories in Mumbai and meets the organic cotton farmers and tailors that produce the clothes, bringing to life the Frugi supply chain that is certified by the Global Organic Textile Standards (GOTS) - the highest social and environmental standards possible.

In January Frugi CEO Hugo Adams, who joined the business in August last year, travelled to India to produce the videos.

He said: “Lucy and Kurt created a business 15 years ago that has seen exceptional growth year-on-year because they stuck to their beliefs of strong ethical and environmental values.

“In an age where everyone is talking about fast fashion and asking who made my clothes, it is refreshing to know that Frugi has always done this and is only doing more.

“In January, I visited our factories in India and met the farmers who grow our organic cotton and the factory workers that turn this into yarn and cut the cloth that makes our clothing. It was an incredible journey and a great way to celebrate 15 years of Frugi.”

The past 12 months have been filled with good news for Frugi, including winning the best managed large business and highly commended for best contribution to sustainability in the Cornwall Sustainability Awards.

Frugi has also been shortlisted in two categories for the Cornwall Business Awards and is in the running for business of the year, while the design team has been shortlisted in the Junior Design Awards and won gold and silver in the Made for Mums Awards.

As factory owner Amit sums up in the video: “When a product is made with happy hands the happiness sticks to the garment.”
