A family of four had to call in the coastguards this lunchtime after they found themselves cut off by the tide.

The group had been enjoying the sun at Lizard Point when they misjudged the tides.

Volunteers from Mullion and Porthoustock coastguard rescue teams were scrambled to The Lizard just after 12.50pm, to go their aid.

However, whilst they were en route the family found they were able to get back to safety by themselves.

The Mullion coastguards continued to the scene, to check with the family that they were all safe and well.

A spokesperson added: “Thanks to Porthoustock Coastguard Rescue Team for providing back up.”
