FALMOUTH Classics will "continue for years to come" thanks to the support the event receives, its organisers have said.

This year's Classics began on Friday with two races and then on Saturday Haven Pontoon was open to the public, giving people a chance to see the classic vessels up close.

Saturday saw more races as well, before Sunday morning's Parade of Sail and Power took to the harbour and Carrick Roads.

There was also a parade of small boats in the harbour.

The Maritime Village, sponsored by Tilley, had 14 exhibitors and there was lots for visits to see and do. They could enjoy gin tasting, watch traditional marine skills being used and learn about ropes and cordage, as well as find a loved one the perfect marine-inspired gift.

Punters could also see what Ratsey and Lapthorn had to offer, buy traditional boat building materials and tools, or even splash out on a Drascombe lugger. Visitors could also learn about safety at sea and keeping the oceans clean from this year's charity, Turn to Starboard.

Don Garman, vice chairman of the Falmouth Classics Association, said: “This year has been fantastic, and a true culmination of camaraderie, dedication and above all, a love for classic boats.

"It’s great to see so many people enjoying the event and finding out more about these incredible vessels.

"The support we’ve had has been remarkable and will allow the Classics to continue for years to come.

“We’ve had a spectacular event this year, with over 150 classic boats from far and wide gathering in Falmouth in a unique show of maritime history. We’ve had more French vessels this year, which underlines our relationship with the classic boat community, as well as the draw of the Classics, all over the world.

“It’s been a truly spectacular event this year, with some remarkable entries boasting rich maritime histories which proved very popular.

We’d like to thank all our wonderful participants for making the journey and helping to create yet another fantastic Falmouth Classics. We’ll now be starting to plan for next year!

“We’d like to say an enormous thank you to our fantastic sponsors this year for their generous support, especially our new title sponsor English Braids. They’ve all helped to make this one of the best Classics’ yet. We’re very much looking forward to working on plans for next year and beyond.”
