Primary school students were treated to a Poldark premiere in an exclusive screening of the first episode of its final series.

For the students gathered in the auditorium the day provided insight not only into the direction of the fifth series of the Cornwall based BBC One drama, but also into the professional standard television studios available at Falmouth University, where the screening was held.

Terrie Fender, director of the Academy of Music and Theatre Arts, said: “AMATA was delighted to host the Cornish schools’ preview of the new BBC series of Poldark, at our exciting Falmouth performance venue. It was great to greet so many young people and show them our amazing facilities for careers in music, acting, technical theatre and dance.”

The day saw pupils given tours around the facilities available at Falmouth, exposing the opportunities available in the creative industries with particular reference to TV, film and theatre.

Following the episode, students had a chance to engage in a Q&A with Poldark’s producer, Michael Ray, who said: “We employ so many different kinds of people in all sorts of different jobs, and they’re paid well. It is a successful industry and at the moment. There’s lots of opportunities for young people. It is a good thing to do: you can be successful, you can make good money and have a good life.”

Official dates for when the next series will air are yet to be released but it is expected to be some time this summer. This screening was followed by the official premiere at Redruth’s Regal Theatre, where fans were given the opportunity to meet the some of the stars.
