Veterans and current serving personnel from across Cornwall will be gathering this weekend to celebration the work of the armed forces.

Cornwall Armed Forces Day is taking place this Saturday at Flambards Theme Park between 10am and 4.30pm.

It is part of a national campaign to give everyone the opportunity to show support for the men and women of the armed forces past and present, including currently serving troops, their families, reservists, veterans and cadets. Similar events are taking place across the UK.

In Helston there will be a range of military vehicles to view in the car park, singing from the Culdrose Military Wives Choir and re-enactors in uniform, with Falmouth & Penryn Sea Cadets, the National Military Working Dogs Memorial and Helston Air Cadets among those also making an appearance.

A number of military charities and cadet forces will be attending, along with 6 Rifles, Association of Wrens, Royal Marines and Army Reserves.

The event is being held at Flambards for the second year running and is free to attend, although standard admission applies to anyone wanting to enter the theme park rides and attractions, which will be open as usual.

Organiser Mike Waters said: “I am delighted that Flambards have again allowed us to hold Cornwall Armed Forces Day on their premises. We have had a lot of support from local organisations and it will be bigger and better than last year.

"A lot of reservists, cadets and veterans’ charities have put a lot of effort in already to make the day both tremendous success and a very enjoyable day for all those members of the public that support it.

"Cornwall Armed Forces Day is very important as it gives a much-valued morale boost for armed forces personnel and their families."
