A record-breaking £1,000 was pulled in at a charity vintage tractor run through the Helston area on Friday.

A sunny evening on the longest day of the year resulted in perfect conditions for this year's Brian Pascoe Memorial Midsummer Charity Tractor Run, which 69 tractor drivers took part in.

They left Helston's Fairground Car Park at 6.30pm and for the first time headed through the Penrose Estate, a new addition to the route.

Organiser Bobby Eustis said: "This proved very popular with everyone. Special thanks to Mike Hardy and his team from the National Trust."

The procession then travelled through Carleen, Godolphin and Ashton before making there way down to the harbour at Porthleven, where the tractors were greeted by hundreds of people lining the streets.

"We thank the people and businesses of Porthleven for their support; it was an amazing atmosphere as we drove through and headed up around the clock tower before returning down through the town," said Mr Eustis.

The run finished at Out Of The Blue at 8.30pm, where there were pasties and a raffle.

The evening raised £1,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Mr Eustis thanked Simon and Kim Stone for hosting them at the end, along with all the sponsors, saying: "Without our sponsors it would not be possible to create such a popular and special event."

These included SJ Andrews, Truro Tractors, Big Wheels, Armada, Trelowarren, Clear-Flow, CIS, FWB, Flambards, Trevaskis, Brian Etherington, Bob Willmott, Rex Andrew, SW Airbrakes, Cornish Blooms, Red Lion Inn Blackwater and Carpet Connection.

"I might be the organiser of the event, but I would not be able to do it without my team of helpers. I'd like to say a special thank you to all of them," added Mr Eustis.
