A derelict hotel on the Roseland Peninsula was the subject of plans for redevelopment heard this week.

Plans were proposed on Wednesday, July 3, at Shallikabooky Beach Hut cafe Pendower Beach, for the redevelopment of Pendower Beach Hotel.

It has been unused for more than a decade.

The proposal saw Penryn-Based company Koha Architects put forward a plan for a development, including a14-bedroom boutique hotel.

Gary Wyatt, from the firm, said: “There have been significant changes in response to the views of local people.

"We believe the result is an exciting scheme which strikes the right balance in regenerating this brownfield site in a way which enhances its setting and achieves many environmental, ecological, access and other physical improvements which will benefit visitors and the local community.”

The architects said that the proposed development had been informed by public feedback from consultations with residents, notably in January 2018 where a show of hands approved of the development of the hotel, but not in the way that was initially proposed.

Other facilities to be put on the site include a café, which would serve the general public throughout the day, as well as 25 residential apartments and environmental and public amenity improvements.

There is also a recognised need to stabilise the existing access road to the beach, future-proofing it against coastal erosion.

Many people have expressed their desire for the retention of a hotel on site, provided any development was in keeping with the special character and nature of the location.
