THIRTY new homes have been bought in the first three months of Taylor Wimpey’s development in Falmouth.

Chy An Dowr features a range of two, three and four-bedroom homes on Bickland Water Road, which have been available since April 13.

Work on Taylor Wimpey’s Chy An Dowr development began late last year and of the 94 new homes, 33 will be classed as affordable.

These will be split as 70 per cent available to rent and 30 per cent sold as shared ownership.

Developers have been trying to build on the site as far back as February 2014, however, Cornwall Council refused Midas Commercial Developments Ltd permission to build 153 homes on the same site, due to the impact on the setting of Budock Church, the local landscape and the loss of high grade agricultural land.

A subsequent planning appeal was dismissed in January 2015.

Outline permission for Taylor Wimpey’s development was refused by Cornwall Council in January 2016, but eventually allowed on appeal later that year.

Melissa Langton, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey Exeter, said: “We’ve had a great deal of interest in Chy An Dowr in the months leading up to the launch so we’re delighted that we’ve managed to sell such a high number of our plots in the first six weeks of the development opening.

"Our launch weekend was a huge success and it’s clear that there is high demand for new build homes in the Falmouth area. We’re excited to welcome plenty more visitors over the next few weeks and months.”
