POSSESSING a large combat knife in Camborne has resulted in a prison sentence for a 22 year-old man.

Dean Joshua Miller, of no fixed address, admitted committing the offence on August 4, when he had a knife with a cutting edge of 9.5 inches in Trelowarren Street.

Truro magistrates jailed him for 17 weeks and ordered him to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £122. The knife was forfeited and destroyed.

AN Illogan man was found with heroin and cannabis.

Brett Matthew Cope, aged 37, of Coronation Road, possessed 0.51g of cannabis in Redruth and 3.06g of heroin in Camborne. Both offences were committed on July 21.

He was fined £400 and ordered to pay £85 costs and £40 victim surcharge. The drugs were forfeited and destroyed.

A MAN breached a suspended prison sentence when he was found in possession of cannabis.

Conor Richard Elsey, aged 24, of Trelowarren Street, Camborne, admitted committing the offence on March 23.

It was in breach of a suspended sentence which was imposed on January 21 for driving whilst disqualified.

Magistrates decided not to activate the sentence as it was a "lesser offence" and Elsey has done well with probation.

Instead they varied the term of 12 weeks, suspended for 18 months. He was also placed on electronic monitoring for eight weeks and ordered to pay £85 costs.

A HELSTON teenager drove while under the influence of cocaine.

Serena Michelle Ives, aged 18, of Hellis Wartha, pleaded guilty and admitted two further charges of driving with benzoylegocine and delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol in her system.

She committed the offences on February 7 in a Vauxhall Corsa in the town's Clodgey Lane.

She had 29mcgs of cocaine in her blood; 502mcgs of benzoylegocine and 7mcgs of the cannabis-related drug.

Ives was disqualified from driving for 18 months and fined £247. She was also ordered to pay £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge.

DRINK driving has cost a Redruth man his licence.

Michael Graham Prowse, aged 26, of Tresaderns Road, admitted committing the offence in a black Ford Transit van on the A3047 at Treleigh, on April 7.

He had 184mlgs of alcohol in 100mls of blood. The legal limit is 80mlgs.

He was banned for 20 months and fined £200. He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge.

A FALMOUTH man has been given a six-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months, after damaging a car on August 4.

Sam Craig Bowdery, aged 27, of Pellow Close, admitted damaging a Nissan Juke in Bodmin, to the value of £75.

Magistrates imposed the sentence because the offence was committed in drink, in a domestic context, with a vulnerable victim and a record of previous convictions.

He was also ordered to pay £75 compensation.

EXCEEDING a 30mph speed limit has resulted in a fine for a Falmouth man.

Sean Liam Preston, aged 28, of Meadowbank Road, committed the offence on January 27 in a Ford Fiesta at Illogan Highway.

He was fined £220 and ordered to pay £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge. His licence was endorsed with three points.
