Porthleven Lifeboat Day has been cancelled due to the poor weather forecast for Saturday.

One of the organisers, Chris Freer, posted on facebook: "It is with regret, that we have had to cancel Porthleven Lifeboat day due to health & Safety issues with setting-up the site for the event.

"We have a yellow weather warning out for gusts of wind upwards of 60mph, as such, it isn’t possible to erect the marquee and other equipment which is required for an event of this size.

"The safety of those working to erect the marque and other equipment must come first.

"We appreciate that the weather forecast for Sunday maybe somewhat better, however without having been able to set-up beforehand, we have taken the decision to cancel the event for this year.

"We are however in the process of trying to pull together a smaller event in the village on Sunday, August 11, with local support. We hope to update you with more information once we have finalised things."
