The Lizard lifeboat launched late last night to go to the assistance of a yacht with four people on board.

In a position of 2.5 nautical miles west of Lizard Point in a freshening southerly wind, the 11-metre yacht was very low on fuel and its occupants were lacking in confidence to sail.

Upon a prompt arrival on scene around 11pm, it was decided that the lifeboat would shadow the yacht as she motor-sailed into calmer waters around Lizard Point and closer to Kilcobben Cove.

However, it was later decided to then pass a tow line and the lifeboat went on to escort the yacht in to Falmouth Harbour.

RNLB Rose arrived back at her station at 3.20am this morning and was made ready for service if required.

It was the third service launch in as many days for the Lizard crew.
