A HEROIN addict from Falmouth has been sent to prison for 12 weeks.

Ieuan Reed, aged 35, of Meadowbank Road, faced six charges when he appeared before Truro magistrates on Monday.

Four offences related to an incident which happened on Sunday, when he stole £1,161.70 of goods from Sainsbury's in Helston.

He also drove without insurance, MoT and otherwise in accordance with a licence in a red Vauxhall Corsa on Clodgey Lane.

Those offences breached a conditional discharge which had been imposed on April 15, after he had attempted to steal six bottles of alcohol worth £84 from Asda, in Penryn.

Magistrates sent him to prison because he is a prolific shoplifter, the high value of goods taken and that he stole to fund his heroin addiction.

He has also failed to comply with community orders in the past.

He was sentenced without a pre-sentence report because custody was inevitable.

Reed was also ordered to pay £122 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
