Falmouth lost another lifeline in their bid to avoid potential relegation from the Premier following an eight-wicket defeat at home to league leaders Penzance on Saturday.

Despite reaching 101-1, the home side's innings collapsed to 150 all out after 44.4 overs, with Penzance meeting their revised target of 143 from their 46 overs.

While their opponents are seemingly set to be crowned champions, Falmouth are now 12 points adrift of Callington with just three games to go in what is now a two-way fight to avoid finishing bottom of the table and suffer potential relegation to County Division 1.

Penzance won the toss and put Falmouth in to bat, with the opening pair of Scott Kellow and Grant Stone getting the hosts off to a good start. The duo reached 101 before Stone (36) was caught by Scott Harvey, before Kellow (62) fell the same way soon after to reach 115-2.

It was downhill from there, however, as Falmouth saw the last eight wickets fell for just 35 more runs.

Oliver Paull managed ten in what was the only other double-figure haul, with Antony Angove starring with the ball as he took four wickets for the loss of just four runs.

Harry Roberts (7), Joe Harrington (5), Richard Kellow (7), George Popperwell (2) and Aidan Carter (1) quickly fell by the wayside for just 22 combined runs.

Louis Rudin and Sajjad Jabarkhel suffered successive golden ducks to complete the collapse at 150 all out.

Penzance wasted little time in their slightly-reduced 46 overs, although Ryan Edwards (2) was an early victim.

Angove made 49 before he was caught by Harrington, but opener Harvey stayed on to reach 45 not out, with Thomas Wells making 38 not out to take the visitors over the line with just under 15 overs to spare.
