Sponsors of a village fun run met up this week for an official launch of the recently re-named Run Mawnan.

Formerly the Mawnan Fun Run, the event will take place on Sunday September 22 this year.

Sponsors Kimberley's Estate Agents, Budock Vean Hotel, Meudon Hotel and Cornish Holiday Cottages have joined forces to work with Falmouth Rotary Club in organising the run and raising as much as possible for local charities.

Kimberley’s and Cornish Holiday Cottages have both pledged cash to support the running costs of the event, including purchasing trophies for the younger competitors and medals for all those who take part, whilst the Budock Vean and Meudon Hotels are both offering dinner and bed & breakfast to the first men and women across the line in the 10k and 5k races.

At the recent launch event, company owner Steve Kimberley said: “We have always enjoyed being involved with this popular community event and are proud to support it once again this year under its new name.”

Nicky Miller from the Budock Vean Hotel, added: “We have been keen supporters of Mawnan Fun Run ever since its original inception almost 15 years ago and are pleased to join forces with the Meudon Hotel in donating dinner, bed and breakfast to the winners of the 10k and 5k races.”

Rod Allday, Chairman of Mawnan Fun Run Committee, said ‘‘The generosity of these local businesses is vital to the success of this event and we are very grateful to them all for their ongoing support. The event has continued to grow year on year, and we are very proud of the amount of money we have been able to raise for local charities and good causes.

"We are looking forward to another successful event this year and encourage people to enter as soon as possible by visiting our website at www.runmawnan.org.uk.”

The event starts and finishes in Carwinion Playing Field in Mawnan Smith and there are three races to suit all abilities: 10k, 5k and a one mile children’s fun run.

All competitors who pre-enter will receive a medal and a goody bag and there will be plenty to keep spectators entertained on the day with fun and games for all the family, including sideshows, a raffle, food and licensed bar.

Online entry is now open at www.runmawnan.org.uk/entries and closes at midnight on Sunday September 15.
