THERE was a time when Trennick Mill produced an excellent old-fashioned menu in slightly old-fashioned surrounds - perfect for a discreetly long lunch away from prying eyes (and bosses).

That era has long since gone, to be replaced by a cafe/restaurant which still retains a smattering of "meat and two veg" options, but has added pizzas, paninis, salads and much more to its culinary armoury.

Situated in a quiet corner of Truro opposite Boscawen Park and next to Moresk Wood and adjoining duck pond, it is a convenient stop-off for strollers taking time out from the day to day bustle.

We lunched on a pleasant August day and sat outside, defended by "wasp catchers" and protected from the persistent sun by trees and a parasol.

I opted for a sausage and onion chutney while my partner had a gammon ham Ploughman's - and we shared the requisite bowl of chips.

Falmouth Packet:

Sausage and onion chutney panini

I was impressed with the quality and herby nature of the sausage and the chips were fresh and perfectly cooked.

My partner's Ploughman's looked equally fresh but did feature a slightly bizarre tasting chutney, which had more than a hint of All Spice about it.

For dessert we shared a pancake stack with banana, nutella and ice cream, which left us both ready for an afternoon nap.

All of the food was washed down with two lemonades - apple and blackberry and rose and followed by some excellent flat white coffees.
