Update: The ferry is back in Penzance harbour as of 1pm.
The Scillonian ferry is being escorted back to Penzance after suffering an engine breakdown en-route to the Isles of Scilly this morning.
Initially powered by two engines, the passenger ferry experienced a technical issue at sea and is now returning to port powered by one engine.
Sennen Cove lifeboat is escorting the ship and HM Coastguard is monitoring the situation although a spokesperson said "The company has it under control."
A post of the Isles of Scilly Travel Facebook page said: "Unfortunately technical failures do happen which at times are beyond our control.
"We are sorry for this situation and our teams are working hard to fix the issue and return to normal operations."
