Helston Harvest Fair weekend has begun, with the dog show already taken place and the carnival still to come tonight.

A large number of pets and their owners gathered at Coronation Park earlier this afternoon, for a range of classes in the fun dog show.

Categories included golden oldie, cutest puppy, junior handler, waggiest tail and dog most like its owner.

Causing particular amusement were the 'best legs combo', fancy dress and 'My dog's got talent'.

The weather looks set to remain dry for this evening's carnival, which grows every year.

Judging will take place at 4.45pm in the car park at Tesco, with classes for large float, small float, decorated bike/buggy/wheelchair, vintage vehicle, group walkers, adult walker and child walker.

Entrants then leave at 6pm to begin a route around the town, heading down Trengrouse Way to Meneage Street, down Coinagehall Street, back up again into Wendron Street and Godolphin Road, then along Clodgey Lane back to Tesco.

The event has once again been sponsored by Flambards.

Helston Horticultural and Craft Show opens to the public tomorrow at 1.30pm, in the Old Cattle Market, which will be filled with fruit and vegetables, flower arrangements, photography, cookery and crafts, plus children's entries.

Prize giving will take place at 4pm.
