A 'killer clown' has been harassing residents in Penryn over the weekend, chasing women and reportedly asking children to get in his car.

Police confirmed reports of a man wearing a 'Pennywise' mask approaching two women and a seven-year-old in a wooded area near Green Lane on Saturday and chasing them when they ran away.

Another resident posted on Facebook saying that a man dressed as the killer clown from Stephen King's It drove up to children and asked them to get in his car yesterday afternoon in Greenwood Crescent.

Posting on Facebook, Ashleigh Hunt said: "My daughter is so terrified she won’t even go to the bathroom without me and she cries if I have to leave the room."

Clint Gilbert, also on Facebook, said: "Some sick f*** just drove up my street dressed as killer clown, waved at kids but went. He's been asking kids to get in car. This was at 1455 today."

These are not the first reports of a 'killer clown' harassing Penryn residents: In October last year a person wearing a clown mask was seen peering through the window of an exercise class at Penryn Rugby Club, and in in June a mum and her sons were chased by a mask-wearing man who allegedly asked one of the boys to come home with him.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called with a report of a public order offence (use threatening/abusive/insulting words/behaviour to cause harassment/alarm) in Penryn at around 7pm on Saturday 7 September.
