Work will soon begin on the next stage of development at Helston Business Park - and the company moving in can now be revealed.

Howdens, a kitchen suppliers that also includes a joinery and hardware store, has been confirmed as the latest business to sign up.

The firm will be taking on a 629 square metre unit within the new building, which will be on a plot to the immediate left hand side of the entrance road as you drive in.

Planning permission has just been given by Cornwall Council for the development, with site owner Matthew Lugg, managing director of the MJL Group, due to begin work in the latter part of this year.

Permission has been granted for business, general industrial use and storage or distribution, plus ancillary trade counter use.

The remaining 941 square metres of the forthcoming building is still available and the current plan is for it to be sub-divided into two units, 311 square metres (3,348 square feet) and 630 square metres (6,781 square feet) large respectively.

New leases are available for these units with a minimum term of ten years, with Vickery Holman in Truro acting as agents.

Director Alan Treloar said: "We’re pleased that planning consent has now been granted for a further phase at Helston Business Park and that Howdens are now confirmed as committed to the first unit in this terrace.

"It will be located on land adjacent to the left hand side of the entrance to the estate, facing the other development that has taken place so far, and work will start on that phase later this year.

"There is currently a great deal of activity on site as the large, detached builders' merchant unit gets closer to completion."

He added that the business park was filling a gap in the market.

"The demand from occupiers continues to be encouraging and what we are finding is that Helston Business Park is providing units that are in very short supply on the market at the moment, not just in Helston but across the county more widely as well.

"It very pleasing to see more and more commercial space being built in Helston, which in turn creates further employment opportunities and ultimately makes available goods and services for the town which might previously have meant a journey to another location," he said.

Howdens will join Screwfix and Forms Plus, which are already based on the site, and Bradfords Building Supplies that is due to open in January.

Bradfords will be holding a branch recruitment day in Helston next week on Thursday, September 19, between noon and 5pm, with a view to signing up new staff ready for the opening.

The recruitment team will be holding a drop-in at Henlys, at the top of Church Street, with positions from sales staff to HGV drivers available.
