It has been 20 years since the Cornwall SCITT partnership of local schools and Truro & Penwith College offered local people the chance to train to teach without having to leave the county.

Since then almost 1000 graduates have gone on to teach in Cornwall, the UK and as far afield as New Zealand, enjoying careers which have taken some to headship. The course grew again in 2016 to offer primary teacher training.

As the latest recruits head into the classrooms for the first time, Alison Smith, course director, said: “It is really exciting to see so much enthusiasm for teaching in Cornwall and to experience the support and commitment schools give to nurturing new talent. It’s a fantastic job. Our new teachers have a great future ahead of them and will in turn, be a hugely positive influence on the futures of our children.”
