Emergency services have been involved in mass search for a missing person after a car was found abandoned in a Cornish beauty spot.

Coastguards, police and the RNLI have all been involved in the hunt, which launched at around 11.40pm on Thursday and continued through yesterday.

It was after police found a car abandoned in the car park above Kynance Cove near The Lizard.

They called in coastguard rescue teams from Mullion, Porthleven and Porthoustock, who began an immediate search with police officers and a police sniffer dog.

The Lizard Lifeboat was subsequently launched at 12.56am, to help search from the water, while the coastguard rescue helicopter 924 carried out an extensive search of the shoreline from the air.

After finding nothing, all teams were stood down just after 3.30am.

Coastguards and police returned to the area later on, to continue to the search in daylight.

A coastguard spokesperson told the Packet this afternoon: "The search has been suspended pending further information."

The Packet has been unable to reach police.
